| I know the chart shows that The HD-1 does not have assignable notes, but does it happen to have the notes already setup to work with RB2 or ghwt? or not. |

Yes, the Default Midi Notes of the HD-1 map as follows:
Rock Band:
Red = Snare
Yellow = HH
Blue = Tom 1
Green = Tom 2
Orange = Kick
Guitar Hero:
Red = Snare
Yellow = HH
Blue = Tom 1
Green = Tom 2
Orange = Crash
Purple = Kick

David pointed out on SH forums that, even though the HD-1 technically will work, it won't be very playable with yellow permanently assigned to HH. I suppose you could switch some of the cables around for RB so the toms act as Y B G, which would be pretty much like playing on a stock kit in terms of layout. Another option would be to run the midi signal through your computer, like with the HH workaround tutorial I posted. _________________ Alesis Trigger I/O + The SethBox |

You could probably switch some cables around and use splitters on the yellow, green and blue. for yellow tom 1, blue ride and green crash, but you would have to use the game drum sounds. I think. I don't have one of these. I just trying to understand how it would work. |

I'm getting ready for the arrival of a Roland HD-1. I plan to "box" my GHWT kit controls, and I've but I need a bit of help.
This video,
, and the Comments have helped a lot already;

How did you hook up your HD-1 in order to play Rock Band? Via Guitar Hero drums?
newke12345
Yep, with GH drums. I just keep the brain and the MIDI interface. And i use the PC with the "MIDIFISH" software to assign the right midi notes to each part of the drums.
Kinney85
But.. you have to have your HD-1 plugged into the PC when playing, right?
newke12345
Right. you can't reassign midi notes with the HD-1 brain, so i have to use the PC.
I'm a Mac user; could anyone recommend a Midifish, http://www.talula.demon.co.uk/midifish/index.html, equivalent that would help me get the same results?
Has anyone had any luck with using Bome's Midi Translator for OS X, http://www.bome.com/midi/translator/osx.html ? |

Strangely enough this has never bothered me. When I got the DD502 kit I left it in default configuration and had a ball playing GHWT. Only took me a couple of hours to get used to the fact that the order of the note paths on the screen did not match to the layout of the drums as I play the traditional crossed arms thing when on the hi-hat. I always wanted to play the drums so that's what made me feel like I was.
The when I changed gaming systems from WII to X-box so I could get RB1 (No rb2, yeah I'm in Aus... feel the hate!) I still left it exactly as it was. So my yellow is still the high hat and you know it doesn't bother me in the least.
Please note this may effect if you are an FC everything on expert player but I am just an average player (Most hard, several expert kind of guy) who just like to sit down with friends and belt out a great time.
Clearly this will be improved upon in the future when I improve my setup (Kit and controller mods) but the point I am trying to get across is that it isn't as weird as it sounds and if it is all you have it doesn't really out a dint in the fun that is to be had.
Also note I did not go down the path of putting splitters as the kit is also plugged into it's own Amplifier. I just adjust the volume to suit but most times having a high hat sound come thru when the game plays a tom sound isnt a problem or a distraction. For me it turned out it was just a matter of getting the amp volume set so it didn't distract from the game.
Of interest may be the fact that I can not play RB or GHWT very well at all now if I can not hear the sound from my amp, even tho they don't match all the time, like I said mixing volume is the key I think. |
