I just got the kind of expensive ($200) EarForce X41s, and so far I love them. They are comfortable and they sound great. The optical audio input along with Dolby 7.1, bass boost and separate volume control for chat volume makes this an all around great performer. I have played with them so far with Borderlands and also while playing the guitar. For a game that doesn't require you to jump around at all, I don't think you can beat these.
But if you like to get a bit animated while playing guitar or drums (which I haven't tried yet) they could slip out of place. I forget which song I was playing, but I started to head bang a little bit and they slipped down off my ears. This isn't a deal breaker though because they are awesome, but it might require you to tone down the dancing a bit. On the plus side, I did not notice any addition lag like I had when I tried to use my Bluetooth wireless headphones.

The other issue that I ran into was when I walked into the kitchen with them on to get a beer. When it started to disconnect (the range is around 30 feet), the staticy popping sounds were quite loud and hurt my ears a bit. This occasionally also happens when playing at a normal distance which kind of sucked as well.

The only other thing to add which may not be a problem for most applications, is that the receiver base is powered only via USB which could be a problem out of the box if you wanted to hook them up somewhere that didn't have a free USB port. I just looked now and they sell a USB power adapter for $10 ($17 with shipping to me) which solves that problem.

tl;dr review
Turtle Beach EarForce X41

+ Unbeatable sound
+ Comfortable
+ No noticeable lag

- Can slip off your head is you move around quickly
- Occasional loud disconnect pooping sound
- Base is powered by USB only (except if you by an adapter)
