Ive been reading a few topics here for a few days before I finally got time to join and bug you guys. (You guys are the best btw, if there were more to go around the world would be that much more awesome...and loud)
Here's where i am. We've got the Rock Band/ Guitar Hero set up, Mic stand Drum throne (Couldn't afford a pork pie.. ) and just recently got double bass pedals for it. After I pick up the RB2 drum set I wanted to add the triple cymbal expansions to make them more interactive for everyone, then pad them to make em a bit quieter.
Then I heard about all the impressive stuff Doc and you guys have done here...and i was wondering WHY I DIDN'T KNOW YOU ALL SOONER!?
What I vision is like 2 mics active or even 3 so that when I play guitar my drummer can join in, or when singing, people can alt or duel it, or bg noise..anything. I heard about the blockhead mic set, but I guess i heard too late cause I can't find one at any local Best Buy or Gamestop. So, what is the cheapest or best solution for us? Also, I think i read correctly that i won't need the old RB mic anymore, so i can open that up and wire it to a tamborine to make an e-tamb seperate?
That I can read up on later though. I can contribute any findings i make on this journey as well, to try to help others like myself |

| Hi there! If you have some basic familiarity with soldering, then the Doc's Vox Box is truthfully not that difficult to wire up, and that would allow you to use as many mics as you wanted (within practical limits of course). Find the link to his construction video and watch it, and see if you agree. I think it's well within the reach of most handy folks to make a DVB, and it would be just what you need. Best of luck to you! |

Oh snap, thanks for that! I don't know if it was fatigue or what, but i started getting myself confused with all the little products, projects and terms used around ere. That is 100% what i need, and now I know which direction i need to go in.
Sorry for a topic for such an obvious question then, thanks again Casey |

Do remember one thing when constructing a Vox Box, it won't treat the mics as separate items. Everything will get fed in as one mic.
It works fine for switching off, but not so hot for more than one person singing at the same time. If your room is loud make sure you have off switches on your mics so you don't pick up room noise on the extra mics. _________________ You, my confused little friend, need a clue. Luckily, I have one here shaped like a nightstick.

I just found these: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15723
Anyone got experience with something like this? This could allow us to jam sooner (Albeit with i assume only 2 mics, instead of 3 + Tamborines), while working on the voxbox and other additions behind scenes

Yeha K-A ...like a kid in a candy store, with mom and pop nowhere to e found I looked everywhere. I'm getting so hyped up, with this project!
Even though it's gonna be tight with all the bills and spending, i'm just snatched up the Audio Technica pack before that deal vanished..and if you add something like a mic bag you can get FREE shipping with their coupon code.
( I opted for a cheap $12 bag since transport is usually not too bad ->
http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Musicians-Gear-4Space-Microphone-Bag?sku=429906 )
Then after the the sale, I took their survey (Yeah, I know..) and got a $15 coupon out the deal on the next purchase.
So thanks everyone for the help, it won't be long before I get started and i'll def. gets some pics and videos up too. I found out my soldering skills actually suck so I need to fix that before hand.
After my wallet recovers, I'll be hunting Doc down for a Tamb, and looking into GH:Metallica.. |

ah..sorry , but I know the purchase felt GREAT! That Roadie Kick box is a must have...i can't wait to surprise the drummer with it one day, but unfortunately first I have to upgrade from the rb1 drum set...
And add that to The Who , SB-Sunday , and one of the greatest Metal albums ever next week, RIP, and I'm pretty freakin happy right about now
Now I see firsthand what our awesome community was designed for, and Im lovin it
***UPDATE***
Got the package today. Nice!. Pics and a mini-review soon...
(PS. Don't be a bonehead like me and forget extra Mic Clips..unless your local joint doesn't charge $8 and Up per clip.)
(PSS? Actually the AT mics come with hard plastic mic clips (Not rubber or Spring clip). These will do, but some people have different preferences i guess)
*UPDATE 02/27/10* (No double posts, right?)
While toying around with the mics and wiring a vox box, one thing im worried so far about. The actual cable connection to the AT M4000S. The XLR plug has a clip, but i'm not sure the mic was constructed to clip well onto it.
That said, it will not disconnect without disengaging the clip by pressing the button, but it does allow for a certain amount of "wiggle", which will then send static through the speakers.
While on a mic stand, no problem, but what about the more "active" singers? Any ideas? |
