|
|
Hello folks,
I just got my wireless P-Bass for PS3. It ist a great product, but I am experiencing the same connectivity issues as many others have. Since I imported the bass getting a replacement would be hard, not sure if it would help at all.
So my question to all you bass modders and gutt-swappers, could I transplant the wireless sender from my RB1 PS3 Strat into the P-Bass and connect it via the original Strat Bluetooth receiver? That thing seems to have a much better transmission quality.
Thanks for your help,

That should be feasible, though I'd suggest transplanting all the electronics. The fret board may prove interesting to connect if the P-Bass uses a 7 wire connection but the Strat uses a 12 wire connection. _________________ Proudly anti-1337-speak, and anti-emoticon. |

I'm sorry but I'm not a pro in this department: do you mean that the basses output has less wires that i would have to somehow connect to the strat's sender which "expects" 12 wires? I really don't want to mess this up, since importing the bass wasn't cheap, but even more important, I waited a long time for it...
thanks again for your help! _________________ "...These go to eleven!" |

You definitely could do this. My 360 P-bass has the guts from a RB1 Strat at the moment, which is nice because it only take two batteries that way.
I haven't seen the insides of the PS3 Bass' neck, but if it's like the one in the 360 and has exactly the same number of wires, it should be too hard to trace and re-solder the points for the buttons.
The difficult part is rigging up the D-pad, since the P-Bass and Strat use very different sized boards for those. |

I have a P-Bass, but I've actually never opened it up so I don't know how the neck is wired. My other Mad Catz guitars (the Telecaster and the Premium Strat) are 7-wire neck connections, which is why I think the new P-Bass might be as well.
The D-Pad on my Les Paul transplant was the hardest part to get right, so Kev's giving you good advice there for sure.
If you do decide to transplant it, and have questions, we'll be happy to help answer them. It's unlikely that you'll find someone who has done exactly this transplant you're considering, so you're unlikely to get much more specific advice without a more specific question. _________________ Proudly anti-1337-speak, and anti-emoticon. |

Thanks for your advice! Does anyone know another way to somehow improve the P-Bass connection? I am sure there must be someone else with this problem in this forum, since it seems quite wirdespread...

Widespread as it may be, it hasn't been brought up here much, and I haven't seen anyone propose a mod solution.
Perhaps this can be solved without modding. How does the PS3 P-Bass connect to the PS3? Does it use the integrated bluetooth, or does it have a dongle? If it uses a dongle, you might just be able to plug the dongle into a USB extension cable and position the receiver in a better spot for you. If it's the integrated PS3 bluetooth, perhaps you can move your PS3 somewhere where the signal is better?
If those solutions don't work out, you might have to mod. In that case, the full transplant is still the best option I can think of. A full transplant is a lot of work, though. I've certainly spent upwards of 40 hours working on single transplant, even after I've previously done other transplants. Each donor/recipient pair seems to have its own unique complications that must be solved. I'm just trying to warn you that you'd be embarking on a path that will take a significant investment of your time, I'm not at all trying to scare you off. We'll still be here, and we'd be happy to help you consider solutions to whatever problems you run into. We've helped others down this path, and we would help you too. _________________ Proudly anti-1337-speak, and anti-emoticon. |

I have had the connectivity problem with My PS3 P-Bass.
Ive sent the original in, and had it replaced. That P-Bass needs to get sent in too. Just been lazy. I'll send it in monday.
I'd seriously give MC a call, or contact the company you bought it from.
When I called MC back in October, less than a month from PS3 launch, they had 5 other P-basses with connection problems. Call MC and see what they can do before you do anything.
Does your effect switch change by itself too? _________________ www.threecountwrestling.com

That's exactly what happens. The connection breaks off, the switch shows on screen, and 1 or 2 seconds after it all started, you can try to save your failing song ^^ _________________ "...These go to eleven!" |

| I don't know if exchanging it is even necessary if you're able to. I just got my P-Bass, and had the connectivity problem. It seems like there's interference with the guitar transceiver or something, because putting the P-Bass transceiver on a USB extension cord and setting it a couple feet away from the system appears to have completely resolved the problem. At first it was happening every couple of minutes, but after hooking up the extension cord I played for a couple hours without incident. Could be coincidental, but it's worth trying. |

TBH that seems like a band aid on a broken bone.
So MC got my P-bass in yesterday. they said that they got it to turn on by holding the sync buttons on the guitar and receiver. Holding them...really? Why didn't they tell me this when I called them.
MC is really becomming one of those companies I want to avoid.
The tech call went like this.
Me: Yea my P-bass for the PS3 isn't turning on at all. Ive tried 3 sets of battaries, one was brand new out of the pack.
MC: Wierd, I'll ussue an RMA for you. _________________ www.threecountwrestling.com

Nice....
I wonder how the phone call from Logitech would go if/when they look at my RMA'd guitar and realized the button board broke because I tried to pry it out of the guitar with force. Now, I did admit to them when I contacted them about replacement parts that I damaged the guitar, but I didn't tell them I did it while trying to disassemble it. They offered to replace it, so I took them up on the offer. _________________ Proudly anti-1337-speak, and anti-emoticon. |
