So then is it possible to just keep yellow open or closed as yellow and not worry about switching it over to blue and keeping the ride blue or a tom blue? (Or both?)

Yep, that's pretty much all you can do. By setting the HH to 50, you've got Closed as Yellow, which it should be. You just won't be able to lift the pedal to hit Blue notes with the HH cymbal.

So I would just have to set the same Midi note for both the tom and the cymbal that I choose? Wouldn't that cause a lot of cross talk/over hitting?

If you want both your Tom 2 and Ride cymbal to be blue, then yes, you would set them both to be MIDI Note #48.

MIDI has nothing to do with cross-talk.

Oh but then is it possible on the TD-4 brain to just make one for kit for RB and one kit for GHWT and have the midi notes different on both? Or do the kits on the TD-4 all have the same midi and I must change it every time? I've seen the TD-9 brain (I think) With the name Rock Band set and then you could just change to custom kit Guitar Hero and that was all you had to do?

Any kit you create on the TD-4 will have its very own MIDI settings. You can create one for GHWT, one for RB, etc, each with different MIDI note settings.

I had another brainstorm about this open HH thing. I don't know about the CY-5 (which is standard issue HH pads from Roland) but my TD-3 came with a PD-8 for a HH. I set the rim of the pad to blue for open HH. If the CY-5 has rimshots, then you could probably try that too, even though it will be harder to hit the rim over the PD-8.

I don't think the TD-4 comes with a PD-8? I believe it does come with a CY-5?

This is what comes in the kit (according to guitar center)

Roland TD-4SX V-Compact Electronic Drum Set Features:
New 6.5-inch mesh pads for high toms
PDX-8 for floor tom
High-quality dynamic sounds
Easy editing with customizable tuning and muffling
Coach function for building skills and technique
Expandable with an optional pad or CY-12R/C ride-cymbal replacement
Compatible with optional VH-11 V-Hi-Hat® to mount on conventional hi-hat stands
Cable harness and DB-25 connector provided for fast, clean cable connection
(1) TD-4 Percussion Sound Module
(1) PDX-8 Mesh Snare Drum Pad
(2) 6.5" Dual-Trigger Tom Pads
(1) PD-8 Dual-Trigger Floor Tom Pad
(2) CY-8 Dual-Trigger Cymbal Pads
(1) CY-5 Dual-Trigger Cymbal Pad
(1) KD-8 Kick Trigger Pad

Work with what you have there?

I see FD-8 Control pedal?

Since the CY-5 is dual zone, you could set one zone to yellow and one to blue and hit the different zones accordingly if you really wanted to.

Is the brain able to set that up?

No, sorry, but you can't. On the TD-4, you cannot set the Bow and Edge to different values on the HH trigger.

Straight out of the TD-4 manual:

Quote:
Selecting HH will specify the HH BOW/EDGE OPEN note number.

• The HH BOW/EDGE CLOSE and HH FOOT CLOSE note numbers will be as follows.
• HH BOW CLOSE: HH BOW OPEN note number minus 4
• HH EDGE CLOSE: HH EDGE OPEN note number minus 4
• HH FOOT CLOSE: HH BOW OPEN note number minus 2

Yeah I guess they had to remove some functionality from the TD-4 to add in other stuff, like the Rhythm Coach (which is really frickin cool btw and extremely challenging, even for someone with years of experience Embarassed ). I can't think of any other reason why they would have removed the ability to independently set your HH notes. *shrug*

Well I just got the kit ordered

Same Throne and Kit

But

Guitar Center had some screw ups on there end and it ended up having massive problems getting me a pedal so for a very very good deal I am going to get Tama Iron Cobras now instead of the other pedals mentioned which I am very very pleased with

As for more brain questions I was able to mess with the standard TD-4 today with the same brain and it seemed very cool still couldn't spend to much time so setting up Midi is still not something I figured out how to do but it was just the floor model

They should either get here on Friday (if god loves me lol) or the more likely Monday the 22nd due to guitar centers standard shipping planning on shipping the kit pedals and throne on the coming Monday and coming standard ups ground I haven't had much experience with it so if anyone wants to give random incite on how long that would take go for it lol
