I did something similar. I used a surface mount MIDI jack (pulled from my MSA-P enclosure) and just mounted it to the side of the controller box.
Then I used conduit straps and scrap plywood to mount a small platform the my e-kit and medium strength velcro to hold the controller on. This allows me to easily pull the controller off to hold it like normal controller when going through leaderboard and other menus. The platform you see under the controller box here was supposed to be temporary till I had time to make a proper one (smaller, shaped more like the controller box and painted black). When I think about doing it, I decide to play instead.

| Great setup! I like the idea of the midi plug. Was the xbox controller that much different in the amount of extra boards? |

Anyone noticed they dumped this thread on the Rockband Forums into GENERAL?

I guess a mod over there is having an issue with his or her neurotransmitters diffusing across the synaptic cleft resulting in an illogical decision. |

Hey, it's deadlybulb again,
Got your message from the RB board. I'll re post my question here.
I'm doubtful about this as you have already stated that it will not work for freestyle mode, but here is my issue:
I have the HH and T1 mapped to yellow (note 46) but both of them play the HH sound during fills. great for the HH, but I want the tom to play the tom sound like it does when I used my RB kit.
Is there a way to map it so that you can distinguish the cymbal/HH sounds form the tom sounds?
BTW, I have v-drums with TD-3. Snare, kick, HH, 3 toms, and 2 cybmals.
Thanks! |

Interesting...
So, the GHWT controller is mapping Midi Note 46 to the Yellow Cymbal instead of the Tom. Unfortunately the GHWT controller does not send MIDI to the XBox, but instead maps to the Xbox controller. So say Note 46 comes into the GHWT Controller and then it send Right Bumper Button to the XBox (I made that mapping up, I really have no idea what it is). I believe that the MIDI -> XBox mapping is static inside the GHWT controller so there would be no way to adjust note 46 to say Left Bumper Button.
Sorry. |

That is what I figured. The strange thing to me is why does it play the HH noise for yellow? When I used my RB1 kit, the yellow was always a tom (the coolest sounding one IMO.)
I guess it's thinking it's one of the cymbal ports for the RB2 set?
No matter, this has but a negligible affect on the overall coolness factor of being able to play an e-kit with RB.
BTW, I am a PS3 user. |

Ah, OK I think I understand the question now.
The answer to your question is, yes you can do that and I highly reccomend it.
This would be my suggested method: http://www.roland.com/products/en/PM-10/index.html
You have a rad drum brain, bail on the game drum sounds.
Fills are WAAAAAAAY more fun. _________________ All I am offering is the truth, nothing more... |

This was actually going to be my next purchase. Now I have my TD-3 outputting to my receiver, but it's on aux, and the PS3 is on another input.
I thought about headphones for my own drum sounds while playing RB, but they're noise canceling, so I'd have to crank the game volume way up, and I live in an apartment, so I try to respect my neighbors.
I usually play the game with headphones.
Another thing is, I have no real drumming experience except for the game. I play almost solely on expert, but there are many songs, I believe, that I would struggle with if I was hearing two different drum kits (mine, and say, Neal Peart's, for instance.)
This would be a great solution for the easier songs and when (not if ) I improve on the more difficult songs.
But I do want to be able to freestyle and practice rudiments with an amp, anyways!
Hmmm... now that I re read your post, is there a way to turn off the drum track for the whole song in the audio options???
I'm going to investigate.... |
